Filling type

• Silicone gel-filled implants – this type of implant is made up of a silicone outer shell filled with silicone gel – a thick fluid that mimics the feel of human fat. It is the most popular filling type of implant since it looks and feels more like natural breast tissue. If a silicone implant leaks, the gel usually remains within the shell or escapes into the breast implant pocket. The implant may or may not collapse.
• Saline implants – saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater. This solution is held inside an elastomer silicone shell. This type of implant is empty when inserted and then filled once they are in place. They can be filled with various amounts of saline solution, which affects the shape, firmness, and feel of the breast. If a saline implant leaks, your body will absorb and expel the solution naturally.
• Gummy bear breast implants – gummy bear implants are essentially similar to silicone gel implants; they consist of a silicone shell and a silicone gel filling. However, gummy bear implants are known to retain their shape better than other types of implants because the gel is thicker. These implants are also firmer and softer to the touch than other types of implants.

Shape

• Round breast implants – this type of implant can be filled with either saline or silicone. They are the more popular choice for breast augmentation as they tend to make the breast appear fuller than other shapes of implants. Although all shapes of implants add volume to the breast, round implants add volume both in the lower part of the breast and higher up on the chest, which does not naturally have much projection without implants.
• Anatomical teardrop breast implants - just like a round breast implant, anatomical teardrop breast implants may be filled with either saline or silicone. It may also be filled with highly cohesive silicone gel (or gummy bear implants). This shape of implant offers less volume up top and more at the base, which is more similar to the natural breast. It is ideal for women with petite builds since they allow for a more natural-looking shape and projection level without increasing the volume.

Texture

• Textured breast implants – textured breast implants are less likely to move around inside of the breast and change in position because they stick to the implant by developing scar tissues.
• Smooth breast implants - smooth breast implants may give more natural movement since they can move with the breast implant pocket.

Size

Breast implants range widely in size, from around 150cc to 800cc or even larger. However, the most common sizes are around 300cc to 500cc. Many people require a different-sized breast implant for each breast, which helps them achieve the best symmetry.
