Hanoi French hospital is outstanding! The doctors and other staff were very kind, everything was very clean, and there was no wait! This was far better than other hospitals I’ve been to all around I’d say.
Very good service with staff and very clean place. All doctors and nurses are friendly. Beautiful hospital in Bac Ninh Hanoi
I've been to several hospitals in Hanoi over the years, but visited Thu Cuc Hospital for the first time this month. You're given a translator as soon as you arrive and they help every step of the way, so it's really easy to communicate with the staff as well as understanding the recommendations and treatments prescribed. The hospital seems to be run quite efficiently, and everything was "western standard" clean. I saw both a Cuban doctor and a Vietnamese doctor; both did the appropriate exams and tests, and prescribed the recommended treatments (I'm a nurse and I actually do check this stuff before I blindly follow what I'm told by medical staff - something I've especially learned to do here in Vietnam). It seemed to be quite well-equipped, too. So, I'm impressed! Prices are less than in many of the private hospitals and I felt that I was treated very well. I'd definitely return to this hospital when the need for medical care arises again.

Thyroidectomy is a medical procedure / surgery that requires coordination between specialist surgeons, anesthetists and various other specialist medical professionals. This type of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) procedure / treatment is relatively affordable, especially in Vietnam. Mainly because the skill set and experience required by the specialist doesn't need to be as extensive as it may be for other procedures. For Thyroidectomy, medical records, reports or any supporting documents may be required for the specialist to assess prior to the treatment.
As with any major surgery, recovery can vary according to the individual. Your immediate recovery can be affected by various factors like the sedation (anesthetic) type and how long you're sedated for, but you should expect to spend some time recovering in the ward before being discharged. Then you should expect to rest for a few more days before you begin to commence light activity again - remember, Thyroidectomy is a major surgery and your body needs time to recover. As for aftercare, it's crucial that you follow the surgeon's advice and adhere to the prescribed medication plan. You'll also be advised about diet, how to care for and treat the wounds and how to recognize possible signs of infection.
It's likely you'll be advised by the medical team to stay in Vietnam for up to two weeks after your surgery, this will allow for enough time for your wounds to heal and have stitches removed, if required. The surgeon will expect to see you for at least one or two post-op consultations before giving the all clear to travel home again. The success rate for Thyroidectomy in Vietnam is now extremely high given the recent advances in medical technology and surgeon experience. However, with any surgery, there is always the possibility of complications, such as infection, bleeding, numbness, swelling and scar tissue. But if you rest post-op and follow the surgeon's recovery advice, you can expect to reduce these odds close to zero.
