I have been coming for treatment for my right eye for a few years now..From the time I enter the clinic till my appointment is done, I have always had first class treatment from Doctor Mano and his TEAM and nurses! Each and everyone of them are kind, helpful, understanding, patience, professional , with all our frustration and fears. Talking to Dr Mano's team, I hear nothing but high respect and great words of praise for Dr. Mano. Good team work and spirits. I did one laser and countless jabs in my right eyeball, doc Mano is very kind and professional and has taken good care of my eye as it is healing more and more but though I know I won't get 100% vision I am happy with the good news given. I would highly recommend Doc Mano and team THEY ARE TRULY THE BEST!!!

I highly recommend Dr Chan Jan Bond. On top of being an excellent surgeon, he is also a caring and kind doctor. I had been postponing cataract surgery as the thought of having surgery in my eye was daunting. Dr Chan took the time to explain the surgery in detail and cleared all my doubts. A short 2 weeks from then, I had completed cataract surgery on both my eyes and am very happy with my vision. The whole experience had been pleasant and comfortable. I'm so lucky to have found Dr Chan. Many thanks to him and everyone in ISEC who made this journey easy for me.

Despite not qualified for their femtolasik procedure, I have to say their services was top notch. Friendly staff all around and very upfront with all the risks and advices they have for patients. Their first checkup is to check the power and cornea thickness. No payment for this. Worth a check. Thank you. If only I had qualified, I would have proceeded immediately. Cheers

What you need to know about Cornea Transplant in Malaysia

Riverside City College assistant professor of nursing Kristin Fontaine with a picture of her infected left eye before the cornea transplant in April 2015

Cornea Transplant, or keratoplasty or corneal grafting, is a surgical procedure to replace damaged or diseased cornea with a healthy layer of corneal tissue that comes from a donor. The cornea is the clear layer surface of your eye that helps focus light to allow you to see clearly. A cornea transplant can restore your vision, reduce pain or other symptoms associated with diseases of the cornea, and improve the appearance of your damaged cornea.

What does a Cornea Transplant Procedure Involve?

There are three types of cornea transplant: penetrating keratoplasty (PK), partial-thickness cornea transplant, and endothelial keratoplasty. The three are performed under local anesthetic and sedative. The most common type is penetrating keratoplasty, during which your surgeon replaces all layers of your cornea.

MyMediTravel currently lists 14 facilities in Malaysia offering Cornea Transplant procedures - see above for the complete list, along with estimated prices. The price of a Cornea Transplant can vary according to each individual’s case and will be determined based on your medical profile and an in-person assessment with the specialist. How Long Should I Stay in Malaysia for a Cornea Transplant Procedure?

Plan to stay in Malaysia for around 10 to 14 days or until your doctor says it is okay for your travel home because you will have to attend follow-up hospital checkups to have your eyes checked. If your surgeon used dissolving stitches, you will not need for stitches to be removed, but you still need to allow your eye to heal before flying back home.

What's the Recovery Time for Cornea Transplant Procedures in Malaysia?

Your eyes will be red and sensitive to light for 1-2 weeks, make sure you rest as much as possible during this period. It can take a year or more for your eye to fully recover, but talk to your surgeon as to when you can get back to your normal routine, exercise, and work.

What sort of Aftercare is Required for Cornea Transplant Procedures in Malaysia?

After the surgery, you will need to protect your eye from injury, avoid pressing or rubbing your eye, and wear eyeglasses or an eye shield to protect your eyes. Your surgeon will give you eye drops, be sure to take it as prescribed. Your surgeons will also give you aftercare instructions, be sure to follow the instructions carefully.

What's the Success Rate of Cornea Transplant Procedures in Malaysia?

A cornea transplant is effective, safe, and has a high success rate. However, 3 out of 10 people who have a cornea transplant experience organ rejection, which is a problem that occurs when the body’s immune system sees the transplanted tissue as something that should not be there. Other side effects and risks of Cornea transplants include infection, bleeding, glaucoma, cataracts, detached retina, and swelling of the cornea.

Are there Alternatives to Cornea Transplant Procedures in Malaysia?

The alternatives for cornea transplant are contact lenses, phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK), intrastromal corneal ring segments, and corneal collagen cross-linking. Make sure to discuss with your doctor the best option for your eye.

What Should You Expect Before and After the Procedure

If you experience any painful symptoms before the procedure, you will not feel those symptoms anymore after a cornea transplant. Also, if your vision is impaired before the procedure, a cornea transplant will improve your vision so you will have close to 20/20 vision.
