Bumrungrad International Hospital

Glinda Deblois, 22 November 2020

I understand why this hospital is considered the best in Thailand. Traveled all the way from Australia to get my treatment here after I heard good things about it. Superb staff, very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Many of the staff can speak English, so communication is not a problem. I asked many questions and told them my concerns, and they answered patiently and put me at ease. Had to stay for several days after my treatment. The room was super clean, well-designed, and definitely made me feel comfortable. The nurses checked on me every hour or so, and the food was surprisingly great. Though having to stay in a hospital is never a good experience, I would say my time in Bumrungrad was a pleasant one. A bit pricey when compared to other hospitals around the area, but with the quality service and high-level care offered, it was all worth it.

What you need to know about Liver Disease Consultation in Thailand

Liver Disease Consultation in Thailand is an increasingly sought-after procedure as its comprehensive healthcare system, competitive costs, and world-class medical facilities make it a great option for seeking medical care. As a medical expert, it is important that individuals seeking medical advice are informed and aware of the medical processes they can pursue. Here are some of the key facts you should know if you are considering a Liver Disease Consultation in Thailand. First and foremost, you should understand that a Liver Consultation is a complex process requiring constant, careful management and keen decision-making. It is important to identify any underlying causes for your condition and determine how to manage it appropriately. An experienced, knowledgeable doctor with both medical and ethical expertise should be chosen for the consultation. For the consultation itself, it is important to be prepared and understand what questions to ask. Liver Disease is a diverse and complicated topic, so it is important to understand the specific issues you will face and what treatment options are available to you. It is also a good idea to have any medical records and tests results on hand in order to provide the doctor with the most accurate assessment of your condition. At the end of the consultation, it is important to be informed of any follow-up procedures and expectations. The doctor should provide a detailed explanation of any medications, dietary and lifestyle changes that may be necessary as part of your treatment or prevention plan. Furthermore, engaging a professional insurance provider is also a crucial step when it comes to receiving a Liver Disease Consultation in Thailand. Insurance can provide protection against unforeseen medical costs and ensure that the individual is properly informed to make the most of their care. Overall, the process of having a Liver Disease Consultation in Thailand is one that requires considerable research and thought.

What are the typical symptoms of liver disease?

Liver disease can have a wide range of symptoms, based on the type and severity of the disorder. Symptoms can range from mild and easily managed to severe and potentially fatal. Common signs include jaundice, abdominal pain, and fatigue. General symptoms can include decreased appetite, nausea, and an itchy rash. Liver disease can also bring on severe complications, such as liver failure, high blood pressure in the veins of the liver, and cirrhosis. Once a liver disorder is suspected or chronic liver disease is diagnosed, a course of treatment should be immediately determined. Treatment can range from lifestyle modifications (such as changes to diet and exercise) to medications, hospitalization, and surgery (such as liver transplant) at a cost of (USD 50,000). It is important that liver disease is diagnosed and treated quickly to ensure the best possible outcome.

What kind of tests are used to diagnose liver diseases?

Common tests used to diagnose liver diseases include blood tests (which often range from $50 - $200 USD [$65.90 - $263.80] depending on the country and type of test), imaging scans (ultrasonic, CT scan, MRI, PET scans which can vary in cost depending on the type of scan and the country as well, with a range of a few hundred to a few thousand USD) and biopsy (which typically starts at around $500 USD [$659.50] and up). These tests help to narrow in on the cause and extent of liver damage, and can help guide the treatment plan.

What treatments are available for liver diseases in Thailand?

Patients in Thailand suffering from liver diseases, such as hepatitis B, are usually advised allopathic treatments with antivirals and immunosuppressants. The treatment regimens generally last between 6-12 months prior to a review, which could include liver biopsy, to confirm improvement in the condition. Recently, newer drugs such as Direct Acting Antivirals (DAAs) have been approved for treating chronic hepatitis B infection that require lesser duration of treatment, with a price tag of approximately 57,000 Baht (approx. USD1800). Additionally, Naturopathy treatments, such as Schüessler salts, medicinal plants and Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM), can also be offered to patients with liver ailments.

What lifestyle changes can help in preventing liver diseases?

Liver diseases can be prevented by making positive lifestyle choices. One should ensure to eat a balanced diet, limiting sugar, saturated fats and alcohol intake. It is imperative to exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight. Furthermore, a person should look to reduce the stress levels by taking up relaxing activities such as yoga or meditation. Getting immunized against viral hepatitis B and C can also reduce the risks. Moreover, contagious viruses such as HIV, along with illicit drug use, should be avoided. Finally, purchasing medicines only from a licensed store and avoiding self-medication can help maintaining a healthy liver. In case of liver-related signs, one should consult their medical provider immediately. Price: Local currency in brackets (approx. USD)

What are the warning signs of serious liver damage?

Liver damage can be serious and should be taken seriously. Warning signs of serious liver damage include persistent yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), pain or swelling in the liver area, dark urine, and pale white or gray-colored stools. Other signs can include confusion or changes to sleeping patterns, nausea and vomiting, and abnormal bleeding or bruising. Additionally, if left untreated, swelling in your feet, ankles, and abdomen may occur. A diagnosis can be provided through a comprehensive physical exam and series of tests (blood tests, imaging, liver biopsy and more) costing around [$500 USD (approx. 7500 PHP)]. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms described, contact your doctor right away. Early diagnosis and treatment of liver damage can result in a better prognosis.
