About Poland

Located in Central Europe, Poland is one of the largest countries in the region and has the sixth-largest economy by GDP in the European Union and one of the most dynamic economies in the world. With its high standard of living, the country is known to provide a high standard universal healthcare system. And recently, it has entered into the popular medical tourism market. It is particularly popular among medical tourists from the surrounding countries. Both private and public medical centers in the country offer a wide range of treatments at significantly lower prices than many other countries in Europe. Although there is no JCI accredited medical centers in Poland, the Polish Ministry of Health provides local accreditation, which is recognized by the European Union. The most common procedures are dental care, cosmetic surgery, orthopedic, and bariatric.

Popular Cities and Regions

Home to 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Poland has an extraordinary history. To see restored Gothic buildings and modern glass structures stand side by side, tourists should visit Warsaw, Poland’s capital. Tourists are welcome to explore its Old Town or visit Saxon Garden, which is a place where Chopin used to live. Poland’s former capital, Krakow, is also full of charm. It has numerous museums, beautiful squares, churches, and a castle. Another popular destination is Gdansk, which is located on Poland’s northern coastline. It is home to the best museums, lively nightlife, and delightful food. Other popular cities for tourists are Poznan and Wroclaw. 

Transport

Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport is the main international airport in Poland. It is the largest and busiest airport in the country. Budget airlines, including Wizz Air and EasyJet, provide affordable travel options to and from this airport. The airport also serves domestic flights, which is good for traveling around the country. For more affordable travel around the country, the train is the best option. Inside the cities, taxis and bikes are the best way to get around.

Visas

Poland is part of the Schengen Area. Several countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, and Japan, can enter the country without a visa for up to 90 days. EU citizens also do not need a visa to enter the country and can stay indefinitely. Other nationals are advised to check with their local Polish embassy.

Weather

Poland has a temperate climate. Spring comes in late March and ends in May, it is characterized by warmer weather and less rain. Summer is from June to August and has unpredictable weather and the temperatures are generally warm, sometimes reaching 30°C. September to November is autumn and the temperature starts to drop during this season. Winter is from December to early March and it can be very cold with the temperature dropping to -20°C.

  1. Local Currency: Polish Złoty is the official currency and 1USD is around 3.9PLN.
  2. Money & Payments: ATMs can be found practically anywhere, even in small villages. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants. Tipping is mostly optional and 10% is the standard in restaurants.
  3. Local Language: Polish is the official language and most locals in tourist areas speak decent English. 
  4. Local Culture and Religion: The largest religion is Christianity with more than 80% of the population identified as Roman Catholic.
  5. Public holidays: Christian holidays such as Christmas and Easter are the most celebrated holidays. Constitution Day and Independence Day are other celebrated public holidays.
