I just thought it might help others if I posted my experience with Dr. Obando and Nova Dental in Escazu, Costa Rica. I selected Dr. Obando after extensively researching implant dentists. I found Dr. Obando's credentials and testimonies to be exceptional. In 2017, I had a full upper arch implanted and can only say that the procedure was a life changing event. The implants improved the quality of my life and are more comfortable than what my original teeth were before the procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Obando not only for his skills and professional manner but for also being an all around good guy that would be hard not to like.
Excellent service. The staff is friendly, professional and ready to help with anything you need. The clinic is very hygienic and following all sanitary measures.
Dentist in the states made me skeptical about going to Costa Rica to get major dental work but the doctors and staff at nova dental clinic were the best in there field as far as skill and technique with a office and equipment that were top notch compared to some of the dentist I have been to in the past. They had a great team of dental assistance that were super friendly and helpful. Doctor chavarria was excellent with the cosmetics and crowns that he did and helped me through the whole process. Doctor truque the endodontist was very assuring with the root canals and post procedure as well as X-rays and structure and doctor obando made difficult surgical extractions a breeze and very surprised with the whole process on time and pain they made it a overall great experience. I am definitely going back in the future and highly recommend it to anyone looking for major work of any size
I went to Nova Dental almost 3 years ago and had 5 teeth pulled and implants inserted. The work was done quickly with NO PAIN and the staff is amazing. Now again I need dental work done again and I am going back for 2 more implants. I can't wait to see my dentist and everyone I met while visiting this beautiful place and country. In 2017 I had implant work done, the facility and the staff are excellent. Dr. Obando, Dr. Chavarria and Dr. Truque are all outstanding. Keren was great and extremely helpful with answering my questions before I got there, and afterwards when I needed information for my insurance. I highly recommend Nova Dental, as all of the Dentists and their support staff will take great care of you. Not to mention that I paid at least half of what I would have had to pay in Florida.
After doing my research on implants I felt there was no way for me to afford chewing and enjoying my food anymore. Then I came across the Nova Dental Clinic. Thank you Google. Thank you prior patients for posting. I began communicating my dental issues with the Nova team in late 2019.From the first email to the Nova Dental Clinic untill today ( my second office visit with Dr. Obando on this my first trip ) this experience had been nothing short of outstanding. He and the staff who cared for me are Kind, courteous, thoughtful, intelligent and thorough. To me this facility felt state of the art and so did his skills. He did what he does on me and it was fast and painless. He is a good man.You owe it to yourself to get world class treatment for your mouth. This is it.I look forward to my next visit in three months as the first step in my three molar implant process heals.
Had two wisdom teeth extracted and a cleaning while traveling through Costa Rica. It was straight forward. The bedside manner from Dr. Obando and Dr. Chavarria was ok. Dr. Obando did the extractions and Dr. Chavarria did the cleaning. The extractions were done well and quickly. During my procedure, however, Dr. Obando asked how I was doing and I explained to him that it was difficult for me to swallow. This was after the anesthesia which would make sense. He told me that it was mental. That rubbed me the wrong way and I did speak with him about that. Staff was also ok. The place and tools are clean. Email communications began in the states and, even though, I had to follow up a couple of times due to a delay in response time, they were typically prompt. I would say the hygienist, Maria, was extremely professional and very sweet. She worked with Dr. Obando. They also take pictures of you and your teeth for professional reasons. It was explained to me that it WASN’T for social media, which is important! I was staying in the area and they provided transportation to and from, which was a nice touch. I wouldn’t go there for a cleaning. It was subpar. They don’t floss, but use a machine that covers those areas. The cleaning was done quickly. I didn’t feel or truly see the difference, which is not what I’m used to experiencing. I recently went to Nova Dental with my wife Marilu to get one implant, Dr. Obando performed the first implant with no effort and no pain produced, but right there he recommended a second implant, which I accepted reluctantly, and again it was done with no pain. I had other idea that an implant should be painful, but not with Dr, Obando, he has what I called a good hand, una buena mano. Highly recommend these guys.I had a crown done in 2018 with them but these were my first implants. I am highly satisfied and will go back this 2020 for the crowns. The good thing is that we also enjoyed Costa Rica during these trips because everything is scheduled effectively, they delivered the work when they promised.Thanks Dr, Obando, Dr, Chavarría and to the entire friendly staff you have.
What a wonderful experience! Coming twice with rooms, excursions and food has still cost me half of what they wanted in the states! Dr.Obando has made me seriously smile like never before! Dr.Paola is super friendly as well! This was worth every penny! The staff is wonderful to work with. I would say they might not be the cheapest in Costa Rica, but who wants that? I want something that is clean and they know what they're doing! I don't want to walk away with crooked teeth or worse...infections! I never had a single fear! My dentist in the states said they did an excellent job as well! Hope you too will make the right choice and allow them to do the work. If you need to stay s while checkout some Airbnb's and use uber!
All I can say is Wow! What an amazing experience. Dr. Obando and his staff were simply amazing. I had been putting off getting an implant for a few years. One due to the outrageous cost, here in Atlanta, GA, USA...but also because of the nature of the procedure. Happy to report, I am back in the states, first part completed! Not only was there no pain during the procedure (really no pain). But, I was also able to pay for it WITHOUT insurance. Where I live they wanted approx. $5000. Here, with state of the art facilities and top notch care my entire procedure is a little over 1/5 of that cost. Nova Dental answered my emails promptly, requested my X-rays, and within 2 days I had a quote. That overly expensive panoramic X-ray they do here, was included in my cost when I got there! The website gives a list of places to stay, which I utilized. I had an awesome time at beautiful Casa Laurin, which was a $2.00 cab ride away.Going back to the office visit, while I was sitting in the chair, Dr. Obando had me turn to see a gigantic, clear and colorized view of my mouth and explained the procedure in detail. I wasn't rushed, and was able to ask as many questions as I liked. The procedure was 20 minutes. All I felt was the tugging as part of my tooth was being extracted first. But that was ALL I felt or heard. I thought he was still pulling out the tooth after 15 minutes...fearing that he was going to say, this is a tough extraction...instead he says "almost done stitching" WHAT?! I did
This past week I started the process for full mouth restoration and I am so impressed with the team here. Dr. Obando spent a long time answering every question we had, reassuring me and I went to sleep knowing I was in good hands. Several days later I went back for my temporary implants and being a "ball of nerves" the team was very informative on every step and ensured I was not in pain. I have been so impressed every step of the way with Dr. Obando and his team and am looking forward to my next visit to get my permanent teeth. I have recommended this office to several of my friends and will for sure be back for my routine care.

We had a terrific experience at Nova Dental. While it was my wife who had the extensive cosmetic work done I was very appreciative of the time the Dentists spent with her answering her many questions and guiding her in the Pre and after care. The clinic and it’s location are terrific.
I wish there were more than 5 stars because Dr. Obando and his team deserve one million stars. I'm not the easiest patient and am very anxious with dental procedures. I was never scared and never had a lot of pain with Dr. Obando. I love my new appearance because I finally have a wonderful smile. I feel more confident about my appearance and can now have a conversation without feeling embarrassed. Thank you Dr. Obando!
A huge thank you to both Dr. Obando and Dr. Chavarría for restoring my smile. Two implants and twelve crowns later, I’m extremely happy and pleased with the end results. I plan on traveling back to beautiful CR next summer for more crowns too. It wasn’t easy traveling solo to a different country to have dental work. I’m confident that I made the right decision. I came in December 2018 for extraction, multiple implants and a large sinus lift...I had little pain for 3 days, and after all that work!!! The entire staff is fantastic- they made me feel like the most important person in the building...My healing is brilliant and I am going back in June'19 to finish up. My first visit was in November 2018, for two implants. Dr Obando and his team are very welcoming, reassuring , professional and knowledgeable, the equipment of Nova Dental clinic is high tech, much superior that what we have in Quebec even in our top rated dental clinics.The whole evaluation was precise, the treatment for the implants, although a surgical treatment was not painful, the medication prescribed was efficient, I experienced no pain at all, no infection.I came back in April 2019 for the second appointment, to complete the work on the implants and for 20 crowns.Dr Obando always patiently answered my concerns and listened carefully to my description of the bite, how I felt the implants and crowns, the esthetic part of the finished work also.I am more than satisfied with my overall treatment.THANK YOU DR OBANDO!!!!!
I was initially extremely nervous going, but after meeting with Dr Obando and his team quite a bit of those nerves went away. I had to have 5 teeth pulled, and 4 implants put in. It was on of the most painless experiences ever. I was born with dentiogenesis imperfecta, and since I was 16 have been going thru the amazing process of veneers. When I hit my late twenties my back molars and two of front teeth weren't strong enough to hold a crown anymore. In my search for implants I came across Nova Dental. Now I wont go anywhere else for this kind of work. I have recommended them to several family and friends.
I highly recommend Nova Dental - from first email to me walking out the door SMILING! It started with emails - patiently and thoroughly answered (and there were many!) by Dr Obando. Together, we talked about options and costs, and then made a final decision. A full mouth restoration is what I had done. It took two trips, 6 months apart (approx 2 weeks each). The care and dedication is obvious in every interaction. One Saturday, about 2 months after my first visit, I had an abutment fall out. However, I didn’t know what it was, and it fell out of my mouth!!! I frantically called Dr. Obando (on his personal cellphone), he answered immediately (again, on a Saturday - I could hear his family in the background). He calmly explained to me it was just a cap on my implant and not to worry; and after apologizing to him for bothering he and his family, he assured me it wasn’t a problem and to call with any concerns.Obviously, this was not the most pleasant experience of my life. That said, it was much better than I thought. And when I had issues, they were addressed. To the extent that, during one appointment, I was watching the TV on the ceiling, and must have flinched or made a noise about something I saw, and Dr. Obando stopped and asked what hurt. I told him Trump hurt me by talking (haha). He laughed and went back to work. Last note on Nova Dental - I have never seen a dental office like this. It was immaculate, and the equipment was all new. Dr Obando is the absolute best. The office is gorgeous, the staff is wonderful and I just cannot say enough nice things about how I was comforted and reassured during the whole process. After getting an outrageous quote for a simple dental procedure in US, I came back to Costa Rica for the second time. This is my first visit to Nova Dental Clinic and I have to say I am impressed. I got a beautiful result for less than 1/4 the cost of US. Nova is my new "regular" dentist.
I am 38 years old and unfortunately inherited my father's terrible teeth. From a young age I started having major work done. I ended up wasting a bunch of money on dental work for root canals that eventually went bad and resulted in having to get multiple molars extracted. I knew my only two options were dentures or implants and when I was quoted something close to a down payment on a house, I said there has got to be a better way to do this. I started researching Dental Tourism and somehow came across a trip advisor thread that led to me finding Nova Dental. I was freaked out at the thought of traveling to a country that i've never visited and not speaking or understanding Spanish had me nervous as well.Like others have said, Dr Obando is amazing. I am a straight shooter so we exchanged a few emails, mainly about cost and availability. I wasn't nervous until we drove up to the office and then my stomach sank. I was getting 6 dental implants and it was something I had not experienced before but knew from research what the process would be. The surgery was surprisingly quick and painless. I was awake, staring at the tv on the ceiling. It was tuned to CNN which turned out to be good because I needed a good laugh. In June of 2017 I went to Nova Dental in San Jose after doing extensive vetting of potential dental clinics both here in Tampa, FL and Costa Rica. Having been in CR a few times on vacation, I was familiar with the country and its "dental tourism". Dr. Obando and the clinic staff immediately made me comfortable through their professionalism and patient focus. I needed 6 implants. The surgery was performed without complication and pain (did not need pain killer). Two days later I came for the follow up visit and flew home the same day. In Nov, I returned to have the stems and crown fitted. The precise work of Dr. Obando during the first visit payed off, everything fit and I was able to return home. Dr Chavarria is, like Dr. Obando, a perfectionist, everything has to be perfect. So, after making sure this was not a short term success, I waited until now to be sure. Everything is as perfect as the day I left the clinic. Thank you Dr Obando and Chavarria for the great experience.
This is my second time visiting Nova Dental and I can say enthusiastically they are the best dental experience you will ever have. Clean and calm office with new equipment and private rooms. The staff is wonderful and friendly with incredible care. Most importantly, they are HONEST!! My new dentist at home quoted me $6,000 for work "needed immediately". I had the same quote 8 years prior and nothing had changed. Obviously it was not required. Horrible & deceiving. I knew I would need a root canal soon and Nova gave me several options ranging in prices with potential outcomes. They also agreed that the many other "cavity potential" teeth were in no way needing immediate attention. Exam, cavity removal, Root canal, post, crown. Grand total? $850. Thank you!
First, let me say—AWESOME! ...and thank you! It's been just over two months since completion of my oral restoration by the team at Nova Dental in Costa Rica (in two stages). Dr. Obando and the team demonstrated great professionalism in every way and throughout each phase of the process; their approach to complete care solutions, the expertise in "smile design", their personal respect and passion for quality of service is ...amazing. Since completion I've followed advice on steps to re-learn in small bites, careful chewing, brush/rinse often, and eating wisely... It had been decades of processed foods and snaggle-toothed smiles; however, I am so thankful to the team at Nova Dental-CR (because those conditions are no more). I have re-gained the ability and benefits of consuming real unprocessed foods. I eat raw vegetables, fruits, nuts & seeds—without boiling, pureeing, and beating foods into a pulp, buttered spreads, or stews... I can enjoy carrot sticks, crunchy salads or steak—and it's a pleasure to eat! On the flip side of that coin is that I now must watch the absence of those limitations too. Aside from that, Nova Dental CR made the process possible (for me) in a manner I could not have afford at home ...including the round-trip expenses for accommodations in beautiful Costa Rica!You all, will always have my gratitude and appreciation for this change in circumstances—I do count this experience as one of my life's blessings.

My full mouth restoration – 26 beautiful, zirconium crowns – took about a week from start to finish. With Nova’s outstanding relationship with one of the most respected international Dental Labs, it all comes together very nicely in a timely and precise manner. From a lifetime of grinding and clinching, my teeth started to flatten out as the enamel and dentin wore away. The troubles were endless: great difficulty in chewing; Jaw joints repositioning and locking up; speech affected not being able to properly pronounce most of the alphabet; and my beautiful, healthy smile from years ago was gone.It is now all over with – I am back to full wellbeing, and my beautiful, healthy smile is back better than ever. Any one looking for dental work? look no further than Nova Dental in Escazu Costa Rica. This is my second time coming here and I brought a friend that needed much dental work too. They are highly professional and very skilled Dentists. Their whole staff is cordial and polite. There is no need to worry communicating in English they are all proficient. I highly recommend having dental work here. The implants installed in my mouth feels normal and natural looking, like my own teeth.
l just finished my final appointment with Dr Obando to check and adjust my bite. I had two implants and ten crowns done. The crowns replaced a chipped bridge and broken crown and the rest corrected badly worn and damaged teeth.When I first went to see dr Obando, I was only interested in some crowns, but he found a loose tooth and advised it was the most pressing need. I left the office feeling informed and reassured that I had found an highly qualified, professional and caring Doctor. He did the extraction of the loose tooth and a bone graft and implant on that tooth and for another missing tooth at my request. The surgery was only about an hour and totally comfortable. It was sore that night and next day, but easily controlled with the medication. I never felt any pressure about my treatment descisions.I now have a great looking set of bottom teeth, but most importantly, I have a comfortable bite and can chew on both sides of my mouth for the first time in years. Also my top implant fits in well with the other teeth and my top front teeth no longer grind on my bottom front teeth. I highly recommend Dr Obando and his staff. It was a great cost saving to have the work done here, but most importantly the quality of service exceeded any I have received in Canada.

Back in 2013 I came to Nova Dental and had major surgery including bone grafts, 6 implants and a 12 unit upper hybrid bridge. I was extremely pleased with the work and the entire process. Last month 2 of the teeth on 1 side detached leaving the metal framework exposed. I contacted Dr. Obando and was very pleased to find out that the bridge was under warranty and would be repaired at no charge. I traveled to San Jose last week and they not only repaired the bridge but replaced all of the acrylic components at no charge. I believe the quality is even better than the original and it looks great! Thank you Dr. Obando for your expertise and professionalism. If you are looking for a great dentist for implant work I highly recommend Nova Dental.

I cannot sing my praises for Dr. Obando and Nova Dental loudly enough!I had wanted to fix my smile for years, but the expense always kept me from doing it. Bad teeth run in my family. I was considering the "All on four" total replacement procedure and started to price it here in the U.S.Once I got estimates, again I figured it was just something that I couldn't afford and that I was going to have to live with the teeth I had.Then a friend (and patient) of Nova told me about Dr. Obando. I contacted Nova Dental, and got the preliminary process started. On my first visit, Dr. Obando told me that most of my teeth were healthy enough to stay and that I didn't need to go as extreme as I thought. I didn't need the "All on four" procedure. He then came up with a new plan, a series of implants, crowns, filling replacements, and bone grafting.(Bone graft. 9 implants. 18 crowns. 4 fillings replaced.)The price was even less than the "All on four." Imagine that! Dr. Obando cares so much for his patients that he actually came up with a plan that would save me money on the already affordable original plan. The first week went quick and painless. I went for the IV sedation so I was out the whole time. (Well worth it. I admit it, I'm a big baby when it comes to dental work.)With the four month healing period over, I returned to Costa Rica at the end of July, this time for a two week stay. If I could give 10 stars, I would! Dr. Obando and his staff at Nova are the best. I had major work done (complete removal of old diseased teeth, removal of failed implants and associated infections, bone graphs, placement of new implants and finally fitted with upper and lower permanent dentures.) This is the best I have ever looked! Nova is as good as if not better than the best dental facility in the US. And believe me I have been to many. Incredibly positive experience. Beautiful offices, world class dentists, professional staff, state of the art equipment... all at about 1/3 of US prices.
First, I would like to say that I was one big nervous chicken when it came to doing this. I must have researched for over 2 years. ( I wanted a full set of crowns on my upper teeth but doing it in the states would have cost me anywhere from 22 k to 35 k) THEN i fractured one of my back teeth and the dentist back home in Miami FL said I needed an implant that would cost upwards of 2k. =/ So I decided to bite the bullet and buy a ticket to Costa Rica.. with Hotel and Flight I broke even as far as what I would have paid in the states.. but the real reason I chose to do it was to SEE for myself how I felt and test it out with ONE tooth vs my whole set of teeth (10 total crowns) I loved my first visit.. NO Pain and so quick compared to what I have had done in the states. Also the facilities here are top notch and their equipment/technology is much more far advanced than any dentist in the states. So after my implant I needed to wait at least 6 months to get the implant crown (which is different than the other type crowns that have only a week turn over) I decided to get braces in the states and then come back in a year for the rest of my mouth. I could not be happier with my decision. I ALSO want to add that the dentist had many opportunities to up sell me.!! I initially hated my teeth soo much that I was willing to pay double and just get my whole mouth done in one go.. But he insisted that that was NOT the best option for me since my bottom teeth were healthy an

After much research I picked Nova to perform a complete replacement of all my old metal fillings, a root canal, crown and one implant. Couldn't be more pleased with service and price. Better equipment than American dentists. Costa Rica is a great place to visit also, rafting in Turrialba, Britt coffee tour, Uber around San Jose, friendly people.
I live in the United States and decided to look outside the U.S to have dental work. I did thorough research and contacted Dr Luis Obando. From my initial contact Dr Obando and all his staff were extremely professional. I flew down to Costa Rica and met with him. At all times I felt I had made the right decision and now 12 months from my initial visit I am the happiest person with a beautiful smile. Both Dr Javier Chavarria and Dr Obando have given me something that I could not afford in the States. Alejandro was the technician and spent time discussing the color of my implants and was very understanding of what I wanted to achieve. He also gave me choices and explained the benefits.From Karen on the front desk to all the wonderful ladies who work at Nova dental I cannot say enough good things.Everyone speaks perfect English, so there can never be any miscommunication. As far as costs, Nova dental is extremely good- the costs that Dr Obando quoted me were exactly the amount I paid. Everything from start to finish was wonderful, professional and pain free. The staff is superb and I am in love with my new smile. I saved probably ¾ off what the work would have cost me at home and had a few Costa Rican vacations too! I highly recommend Dr. Obando and his team. I think I'll fly back just to have a cleaning!
Dr. Obono and I emailed for months discussing options. Finally I made the trip ( the first of probably 5 ). Take it from me, a guy that needs 5 visits, professional all the way. Comfortable office, wonderful staff and even a special rate at the Marriott across the parking lot. Yes, it's true, about a third of the cost at home. Can't say enough great things!! Six months later, I've returned to Nova. My bone graph and titanium implants are completly healed and are ready to proceed with my restoration. Dr. Obando and his staff preped me for 18 zirconia crowns. I was in a composite temporary set of teeth for 10 days while my crowns were made. Now all my teeth are hard, straight and perfect. The staff paid attention to all conceivable details. He has a driver that'll take you back and forth to the airport. You'll get a discount on your stay in the posh Marriott across the parking lot. If you need dental work and you can afford about a third of what it costs in the states, go. He even takes American $. If I could give 6 stars, I would.
I would like to express my complete satisfaction of the care and process I experienced at Nova Dental Care. I met with three dental offices in San Jose/Escazu prior to choosing Nova Dental. I had extensive work scheduled on my teeth, including three implants, a bone graft, 19 crowns, a root canal, and an extraction. Dr. Obando and his team not only kept the pain at a minimum, but provided excellent results in the finished product. My teeth are now straight, beautifully white, and functional. I have always been self-conscious when it came to showing my teeth. I am now very proud of my smile and my appearance.The Nova Dental facility was completely first rate, modern, clean, and provided technology that wasn’t available with local dentists in my hometown area. What impressed me the most was the concern to get the details correct and the dentist’s concern for my comfort. Every step was explained in detail, done in a timely manner, and at 1/3 the total cost compared to bids I received in the states. I would not hesitate to recommend Nova Dental to other’s seeking an alternative to dental work stateside.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Obando and the staff at Nova Dental. Two weeks ago I had the first round of dental implant surgery done quickly, painlessly, and with such skill that I was eating normally after just a few days. With the IV sedation option the whole thing was over in what seemed to me to be seconds. Dr Obando explaied everything in detail and encouraged all questions before he got started. I'm extremely happy with the work and the care I received at Nova. With top quality work (as good as any in the US), prices a third of what they are in the US, and a first rate hotel mere steps away from the clinic, Dr. Obando and Nova Dental are an excellent choice for quality dental work abroad.
