Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) at B and VIIT Eye Center

The highly differentiated femtosecond laser, the ZEISS VisuMax, penetrates the corneal surface and allows direct laser irradiation to the corneal stroma. Thus, surgery can be performed at once, with minimal incision less than 2mm preserving structure of the front corneal tissue, without creating a large corneal flap.

SMILE is the most advanced laser eye surgery combining all the advantages of LASIK and LASEK(PRK). If the laser energy level is high, gas bubbles will be formed in the cornea, thereby resulting in a roughend corneal cut surface. SMILE uses low-level energy which is about 600 times lower than that of ordinary LASIK to generate a smoothly cut corneal surface, thereby resulting in quick vision restoration and higher quality of vision.

There is almost no redness and pain in the eyes on the day of surgery and you can resume your normal daily activities from the next day of surgery since the corneal epithelium(outer layer) is preserved.

These are allowed to proceed after the SMILE surgery:

From the next day

- books, TV, computer, public baths or sauna, face wash using soap or cleanser, skin care, skin/eye makeup

1 week post-op

- Light exercise iincluding jogging & stretching, swimming

2 weeks post-op

- Drinking alcohol, smoking

1 month post-op

- Strenuous exercise including boxing and ball game, hair perm & dyeing
