I understand why this hospital is considered the best in Thailand. Traveled all the way from Australia to get my treatment here after I heard good things about it. Superb staff, very friendly, attentive, and helpful. Many of the staff can speak English, so communication is not a problem. I asked many questions and told them my concerns, and they answered patiently and put me at ease. Had to stay for several days after my treatment. The room was super clean, well-designed, and definitely made me feel comfortable. The nurses checked on me every hour or so, and the food was surprisingly great. Though having to stay in a hospital is never a good experience, I would say my time in Bumrungrad was a pleasant one. A bit pricey when compared to other hospitals around the area, but with the quality service and high-level care offered, it was all worth it.

What you need to know about Vertebroplasty in Thailand

Vertebroplasty is a valuable procedure for relieving pain, discomfort and immobility caused by fractured vertebrae. It has been gaining in popularity for those seeking relief from back pain, particularly when other treatments have been unsuccessful. If you're considering vertebroplasty in Thailand, it's important to be aware of all the facts. Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small incision to inject cement into a cracked vertebra. The procedure is performed while the patient is awake and under local or general anaesthesia, and is designed to immediately reinforce the weakened vertebra, reducing pain and providing spinal stability. Before deciding to go ahead with the procedure, you should discuss potential risks, including infection, medical complications, scarring, broken material and a possible inability to walk due to numbness in the legs. A qualified medical professional should also assess your medical condition to ensure that vertebroplasty is the most appropriate choice for you. Once these details have been established, you can review the best vertebroplasty hospitals in Thailand. These hospitals are selected for their expertise in the field of vertebroplasty, ensuring that they use state-of-the-art technologies, have dedicated multi-disciplinary teams, and can provide high-quality treatments and follow-up care. Cost is another important consideration when it comes to vertebroplasty in Thailand. This type of surgery is generally much more affordable than it is in other parts of the world. Additionally, most hospitals offer payment plans to help patients pay for the costs of their treatment. Vertebroplasty in Thailand is a safe and efficient way to relieve back pain caused by a fractured vertebra. It is important to do your research and find a trained and experienced hospital to ensure the best outcome.

What is the cost of vertebroplasty in Thailand?

Vertebroplasty, a minimally-invasive procedure to treat vertebral compression fractures, is now available in Thailand with reasonable cost and relatively high success rate. Generally, Vertebroplasty in Thailand is priced at somewhere between 8,000-20,000 baht (approx. USD 250 to 650) depending upon the complexity of the procedure and the expertise of the doctor. Prices may vary between different centers or different doctors. Therefore, it is recommended to clarify the cost before receiving the treatment. In addition to the clinical benefit of the procedure, patients can expect to return to their normal activities relatively quickly, with minimal post-operative pain. Therefore, it would be a beneficial and cost-effective treatment for those suffering from vertebral fractures.

What hospitals in Thailand can perform vertebroplasty?

Vertebroplasty is a medical procedure that can be performed in many hospitals in Thailand. The procedure involves injecting bone cement and other materials into a vertebra to strengthen the bone and alleviate pain. For example, the Bangkok Hospital offers vertebroplasty at its Phuket, Samitivej Srinakarin and Sukhumvit branches. The Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University is also an excellent option and they offer the procedure for approximately 20,000 THB (approximately USD 620). Furthermore, Paolo Memorial Hospital located in central Bangkok provides vertebroplasty at their main campus or at their affiliated hospitals in the country. The cost of the procedure starts at approximately 12,000 THB (around USD 370). Many other hospitals in Thailand can provide vertebroplasty.

What is the difference between vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty?

Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are minimally invasive procedures that can treat painful compression fractures in the spine. Vertebroplasty is performed by injecting a medical grade cement into the fracture to stabilize the fracture and reduce pain. Kyphoplasty, on the other hand, is a more advanced technique that involves the use of a balloon to increase the height of the collapsed vertebrae before injecting the cement. Both procedures are performed under X-ray guidance and usually take 1-2 hours to complete. The advantage of kyphoplasty, compared to vertebroplasty, is improved precision and accuracy of the fractured vertebra being correctly restored to its original shape. The cost of vertebroplasty is typically (INR 3,000-4,000 [USD 40-55] ) lower than kyphoplasty (INR 4,000-5,000 [USD 55-70]).

What are the risks associated with vertebroplasty?

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure for stabilizing spinal fractures. While it is generally considered to be very safe and even can reduce pain and increase mobility, there are still potential risks associated with the procedure. These include but are not limited to venous thromboembolism, allergic reaction to contrast, acneform eruption and infection. A rare and serious complication of this procedure is cement leakage, which may cause nerve paralysis. In addition, one can experience a headache post-procedure from the cement leaking into or around the brain or meninges resulting in too much pressure. The cost of vertebroplasty typically ranges from 10,000 to 30,000 INR ($135 to $400 USD). Conversely, the risks associated with vertebroplasty are minor and can be easily managed, making it an extremely safe and effective option for patients.

How long does vertebroplasty take to perform?

Vertebroplasty typically requires a short office visit and the actual procedure usually is completed in an hour. Patients may be discharged the same day and usually resume normal activities within the following day. The cost would depend on the geographic region as well as the hospital/medical center/clinic one visits, but is generally affordable starting from as low as (Rs. 15,000 ($200) approximately in India).

What is the recovery time for vertebroplasty in Thailand?

Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that can effectively provide relief from back pain and improve daily activities. Patients typically have a faster recovery time with this method as compared to open surgeries. The average recovery time is 2-3 days in Thailand, enabling the patient to go home in 24 hours. Depending on the condition, the estimated cost of a vertebroplasty procedure in Thailand is 20,000-30,000 THB (approx. USD 630-950). Recovery times may vary depending on the patient's own healing timeline, but the procedure is generally safe and efficient. It is important to follow post-op instructions given by your healthcare provider to get the best possible outcomes. With adequate rest and proper care, patient can resume daily activities within a few days.
