What you need to know about Tummy Tuck in Thailand

Also known as an Abdominoplasty. This popular surgical procedure is used to help firm the abdomen area and involves the removal of excess skin and fat, to give the appearance of a flatter and firmer abdomen. The procedure is ideally suited for women who would like to regain their pre-pregnancy shape and contours, their muscle control and remove stretch marks, if present, below the navel. It is also very suitable for patients who have experienced significant weight loss and are left with excess skin that they wish to be removed.

Tummy Tuck Diagram

There are different types of abdominoplasty available. If, for example, your fat deposits are limited to the area below the navel, you may require a less complex procedure called a partial abdominoplasty, also known as a mini tummy tuck, which can often be performed on an outpatient basis. You may, on the other hand, benefit more from partial or complete abdominoplasty done in conjunction with liposuction to remove fat deposits from the hips using a cannula, for a better body contour. Or maybe liposuction alone would create the best result.

A complete abdominoplasty usually takes two to five hours, depending on the extent of work required. Partial abdominoplasty may take an hour or two. Both are performed under general anesthesia. Most abdominoplasty procedures utilize a horizontal incision above the pubic line that is made only as long as the skin excess requires, generally within the confines of the hip bones. The position of the resulting incision is maintained as low as possible, and most can easily cover it with regular underwear or a bikini.

In a full abdominoplasty, a second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue. With partial abdominoplasty, the incision is much shorter and the navel may not be moved.

Additional factors to consider:

1. Recovery time: For the first few days after your surgery, your abdomen will probably be swollen and you’re likely to feel some pain and discomfort which can be controlled by pain medication. Depending on the extent of the surgery, you may be released within a few hours or you may have to remain overnight at the hospital. Light exercise (walking, treadmill) can be resumed around 10 to 12 days, and more vigorous exercise resumes at four weeks.

2. Success rate is extremely high, Scars will take nine months to a year before they flatten out and lighten in color. While they’ll never disappear completely, abdominal scars will not show under most clothing, even under bathing suits.

3. Patient reviews: The vast majority of patients are extremely happy with not only the results of the procedure but with the entire process leading up to and following the surgery.

4. To see how the Tummy Tuck procedure is performed and for before and after photos, watch this short video - but note, contains graphic footage of real surgery.

About Thailand

Thailand leads the way for Asian countries with over 60 state-of-the-art JCI accredited facilities and consistently voted one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the most popular tourist areas outside of Bangkok are Phuket, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Pattaya, all with great yacht chartering opportunities.

Thailand welcomes hundreds of thousands of medical tourists each year, many of which travel for Tummy Tuck procedures. Medical Tourists travel from all across the globe, particularly from the local SE Asia region, Australia, US, Middle East and an increasing amount are traveling from China. An outstanding private healthcare system combined with a hot tropical climate and competitive prices means that Thailand is now the third most popular destination in the world for medical tourism. The most popular procedures tend to be cosmetic surgery (breast augmentations, gender reassignment surgery and CoolSculpting to name a few), cardiac surgery, orthopedics and urology.
